On May 17, Cane River Creole NHP hosted its 5th Annual Cane River Music Festival. This year's lineup featured newcomers Chubby Carrier and the Bayou Swamp Band and harmonica legend Ed Huey. The festival also saw the return of Buddy Flett, Goldman Thibodeaux, and The LaCour Trio.

Cane River was once the home of several live music venues. As farming operations along Cane River were mechanized, the patrons of these establishments left the region to find work elsewhere. Unfortunately most of these venues have closed, and live music is not a regular occurrence.  The Cane River Music Festival strives to sustain Cane River's tradition of live musical performance, by highlighting different Louisiana's diverse musical genres. This year's festival included Blues musicians, Zydeco, Swamp-Pop, and Creole La-La.
