After hearing of the attacks on the east coast, Yosemite National Park opened on a 24-hour basis, and immediately sent Rangers to provide security to Hetch Hetchy dam and reservoir.
To honor the President's request to designate September 14, 2001, as a National Day of Prayer and Remembrance, park employees, visitors, friends, and family joined together in front of the Yosemite Valley Visitor Center in remembrance of Tuesday's terrorist attacks. Those attending signed a banner that was sent to Federal Hall in New York City to express support for New Yorkers involved in the tragedy. Additionally, Yosemite sent park personnel to assist as part of the Critical Incident Stress Management team to help aid NPS employees and their families in the New York City area.
