Drury Parkway in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park will be closed to vehicle traffic all day on Saturday, June 7th, creating a wonderful opportunity for bicylists and walkers to enjoy the parkway without the noise and congestion of motorized vehicles. The parkway gates will close at 10:00 pm on Friday, June 6th, and re-open at 10:00 pm on Saturday, June 7th. This special event offers the public a chance to safely explore the beauty of the redwoods on bike or foot without the worry of competing traffic. Redwood National and State Parks especially hope that families will take advantage of the Bike and Hike Day and bring their children out for a ride or walk. Walking or biking with children through the wonders of the ancient coast redwood forest not only helps young people get physical exercise and enjoy quality time with family and friends, but also fosters a better understanding and appreciation of the environment in which they live and a burgeoning enthusiasm for exploration. Well-behaved dogs on leash are welcome to join their families for the walk on the parkway too. The Newton B. Drury Parkway winds through the heart of the old-growth redwood forest in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park within Redwood National and State Parks. The parkway is located off Highway 101, six miles north of Orick, California, or four miles south of Klamath, California. The road is 10 miles long and can be accessed from either the north or south gates. Visitors wishing to participate in the Bike and Hike Day should park their vehicles at the south end of the parkway, adjacent to Elk Prairie. On the north end of the parkway, parking is available at the junction of the Coastal Drive and the parkway. Please do not block the gate or park in lots reserved for the visitor center or backcountry use. Visitors are reminded that bicycles and dogs are not permitted on park trails.
