Redwood National and State Park superintendents Steve Chaney and Jeff Bomke are hosting an open house on Tuesday, July 26 from 5:30 to 8:00 pm at the Hiouchi Information Center on the north side of U.S. Highway 199 to talk about future development in the Hiouchi Flat and Jedediah Smith Campground area of Redwood National and State Parks.

Among the improvements being considered are new camping opportunities, hiking and bicycle trails between the campground and the community of Hiouchi, a combined national and state park visitor center, and relocating the campground entrance.

Several alternative designs have been developed. Planners and park staff will give short presentations about the design concepts at 5:45 pm and 6:45 pm followed by question and answer sessions and group discussions of each of the alternatives. Written comments will also be accepted at the meeting.

For more information about the meeting, you can contact the park information office at 707-465-7335. Information about the project and the meeting is also available at parkplanning.nps.gov by first selecting Redwood National Park and then selecting Prepare Hiouchi Development Concept Plan.
