Projects Past and Present
Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park
The 184.5 mile-long Chesapeake & Ohio Canal NHP follows the Potomac River from tidelock in Georgetown, Washington, D.C., to the terminus in Cumberland, Maryland, deep in the Appalachian Mountains. The archeology of the Potomac River valley is exceptional as the river buries and protects the record of the people who lived here and traveled through the valley – from caribou hunters to canal boatmen.
