Join Us in celebrating the completion of the Exposition Greenway
We invite you to attend the Los Angeles Greenways Conference following the celebration.
The National Park Service (NPS) and the City of Los Angeles Environmental Affairs Department (EAD) are hosting a celebration and LA Greenways Conference on Thursday, July 16, 1998. At 9:30 a.m. the NPS and EAD will celebrate the completion of the Exposition Greenway. Guests at the celebration will include LA City Councilmembers Mark Ridley-Thomas and Nate Holden; EAD Commission President Mark Armbuster; and Director of Field Operations for the Mayor’s Office, Tom LaBonge.
The Conference will promote the values that greenways can bring to Southern California. The vision, as stated by Lillian Kawasaki, General Manager of the EAD, "is to transform underutilized corridors into shady, treelined greenways that link communities across our City." The conference will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the University of Southern California’s Salvatori Computer Science Center (Lot H). Speakers and panelists from a variety of organizations and agencies will address the benefits of greenways, opportunities for new greenways in LA and provide recommendations for land use, maintenance, security, liability and respond to funding questions. Planning and building greenways represents an exciting opportunity for many communities to actively improve the quality of life in their neighborhoods.
Working in cooperation with EAD, the NPS Rivers Trails and Conservation Assistance Program (RTCA) mapped all of the publicly owned corridors in the city. The "Opportunity Maps" include all right-of-way, flood channels, powerlines, bike lanes and areas of high pedestrian use.
