From fossil records that reflect the changing landscapeand climate, as mountain ranges rose from volcanic activity; to the culturesof the Native Americans, early Spanish explorers, and later American expeditions,the vast and scenic areas of the Pacific Great Basin parks cover a richand colorful history and prehistory. Exploring our California and Nevadanational parks, you will retrace history as it actually happened. You willlearn how Native Americans, and determined pioneers lived and adapted tothe land, and each other, as the nation expanded westward. You'll alsoconfront the memories of conflicts fought to control these rough hewn lands,and the Pacific coastal areas.
