Common name: Flowering Kale, Ornamental Cabbage Origin: Unknown, grows best in cool climates of Europe and North America. Uses: Kale is the result of human cultivation with wild mustard plants. Kale is very nutritious, even the ornamental cultivars are edible. It is a very tough plant, tolerating most soil types, and is not bothered by insects or disease. Kale was grown on Alcatraz during the Penitentiary era.
