• Find a park entrance pass that’s right for you! The National Park Service is a participant in the Interagency Pass Program which was created by the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act and authorized by Congress in December 2004. The America the Beautiful – National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass, is honored at participating agencies including the National Park Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture - Forest Service, Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Land Management and Bureau of Reclamation. • Make the visitor center at the park your first stop. It’s where you will find the most up-to-date park information, i.e., weather conditions, road closures, event schedules, ranger programs, etc.

• If you’re traveling with children, learn more about the NPS’ Junior Ranger Program. It’s sure to be a hit with the kids!

• Be sure to carry plenty of water with you, especially if you’re going to be outdoors.

• It’s always best to let family members and/or friends know your itinerary in advance.

• Dress appropriate for activities and weather.

• Always stay on marked trails. Hike in groups and be prepared for cold/hot/inclement weather.

• Be respectful of wild animals and keep your distance…they are not captive in a zoo--they are in their natural habitat.

• Take pictures, but leave no trace…don’t pick flowers, or take rocks, etc.

• And, last but not least, ask Park Rangers questions. These are the folks clad in the green and gray uniforms in the parks.National Park Service rangers are some of the most knowledgeable people you will encounter on your travels…not to mention the friendliest!
