Every year Prince William Forest Park eagerly awaits photo submissions for our park annual pass photo contest and the national Share Your Experience photo contest. This year, the National Park Foundation and Olympus are adding a video contest to further enhance visitor's contributions to the National Parks. Find out more below.

Prince William Forest Park Annual Pass Photo Contest
Every year in October, the Friends of Prince William Forest Park sponsor a photo contest. The winner receives a free annual pass and the honor of knowing that their photo will be on next year's annual pass. The 2010 Annual Pass Photo Contest theme is water. Check out the submitted photographs below and e-mail us with your vote for the best annual pass photo!

 

2010 Annual Pass Photo Contest

 

The Friends of Prince William Forest Park is pleased to announce the 2010 Friends of Prince William Forest Park Photography Show/Contest. The winning photograph will be featured on the Prince William Forest Park Annual Pass along with the name of the photographer. The 2010 pass theme is  water. 

Photos must feature the water theme in some fashion. The winning photographs will receive:

First Prize: (1) Your photograph framed with a 2010 Prince William Forest Park Annual Pass, (2) a 2010 Prince William Forest Park Annual Pass, (3) your choice of one item valued at $25 or less from the Prince William Forest Park bookstore.

Second Prize: Your choice of one item valued at $15 or less from the park bookstore.

Third Prize: Your choice of one item valued at $10 or less from the park bookstore.

All three winning images will be reproduced in the park’s e-newsletter with credit to the photographer. Images will also be displayed in the visitor center during the month of October.

Rules:
(1) All photographs must be taken within the boundary of Prince William Forest Park. The theme for this year’s contest is water. Submitted photographs should include images of water found within Prince William Forest Park.

(2) Photographs must be submitted by the actual photographer.

(3) Photographs must be submitted in an 11” x 14” white mat with an 8” x 10” opening or digitally. 

(4) Photographs can be color or black and white and must not be modified.

(5) Digital photographs must have a resolution of at least 300 dpi.

(6) Entries are being accepted after September 13th and must be received before 5:00 p.m. on Monday, November 2, 2010.

(7) Employees of Prince William Forest Park and their families are not eligible to participate.

(8) The winner gives permission for usage rights of the winning photograph to the National Park Service. Winner retains rights to the winning photograph, other than usage by the National Park Service.

(9) The winner must provide the original negative or, in the case of a digital photograph, an electronic copy of the picture file, so copy can be made for use by the National Park Service.

(10)The Friends of Prince William Forest Park will retain the winning photograph for framing. Contestants may include a self-addressed stamped envelope for return of their photograph or may pick up the photographs in person at the park visitor center between November 2 and November 12. Please bring photo identification such as a driver’s license.

(11)The entry form must be affixed to the back of the photograph for identification purposes.

(12)Do not include your name on the front of the entry.

(13)The Friends of Prince William Forest Park reserve the right to disqualify any entry it deems inappropriate.

(14)The National Park Service reserves the right to not use any of the photographs submitted on the pass.

(15)Completed Usage Statement must be included with each contest entry.

Did You Know?
Prior to 1948, Prince William Forest Park was named Chopawamsic Recreation Demonstration Area. The name hinted at one of the park's intended uses as a source of recreational opportunities for the inner-city youth of Washington, D.C.
