Firewood
Outside firewood is prohibited in Prince William Forest Park, unless it is certified USDA 'bug free' firewood. Any dead and downed wood can be collected in the park for in-park use. Help us protect the forest from invasive species!

Oak Ridge Campground B and C Loops Full 5/26
The B and C Loops of Oak Ridge Campground are full for Saturday night, May 26th. A loop is a first come, first served loop of the campground so you can arrive early to get a site. Call the visitor center from 9 to 5 for a current A Loop site count.

Please check yourself and your pets for ticks continually during and after your visit. Ticks are less prevelent if you stay on trail or in mowed areas. Wearing light colored clothing helps you spot them before the attach.

Paws in the Park 2009
Virginia Search and Rescue Dog Association struts their stuff at Paws in the Park 2007.

Celebrate responsible pet ownership and have a ball with your four legged friends at Paws in the Park on Saturday, April 25 from 10 am to 2 pm at the Pine Grove Picnic area! Enjoy working dog demonstrations, information booths, rescue groups, a "faux" dog show, and activities for the kids. On this day only, four legged visitors can romp in our designated off leash area. Bring your canine companions and take part in training workshops and listen to guest speakers in this 15,000 acre oasis. NPS McGruff "takes a bite" out of crime at Paws 2007 Prince William County Police Department's Crime Prevention Unit has agreed to allow McGruff, the crime prevention dog, to return to Paws in the Park this year. Everyone, especially children, loved meeting McGruff at Paws in the Park 2007! He will meet and greet event attendees and give out crime prevention tips.
NPS Park Ranger Martin Gallery & Samson Law Enforcement Park Ranger Martin Gallery, on loan from C & O Canal, is returning to Paws 2009 with his canine partner, Samson. He will demonstrate to audience members the amazing work that bomb-sniffing dogs do.

NPS VSRDA at Paws 2007 Virginia Search and Rescue Dog Association (VSRDA) is a highly skilled volunteer canine search and rescue unit that uses specially trained dogs to locate missing persons or human remains in wilderness, disaster, and water search and rescue/recovery missions. A trained dog's sensitive hearing, night vision, endurance, and keen sense of smell have proven invaluable in the effort to locate missing persons more swiftly. VSRDA will conduct demonstrations.

Did You Know?
Prior to 1948, Prince William Forest Park was named Chopawamsic Recreation Demonstration Area. The name hinted at one of the park's intended uses as a source of recreational opportunities for the inner-city youth of Washington, D.C.
