Experience a place where history and nature unite!

Prince William Forest Park is an oasis of natural beauty and human history located only 35 miles south of Washington, DC. 37 miles of hiking trails and 21 miles of bicycle-accessible roads and trails traverse this 15,000 acre piedmont forest. Beneath its canopy lies evidence of human history reaching back to 8,000 B.C.

Firewood Restriction

Please enjoy camping in Prince William Forest Park this weekend! However, bringing in outside firewood is prohibited. Outside firewood, even that which is purchased locally, can introduce the destructive, invasive Emerald Ash Borer beetle into Prince William Forest Park and harm thousands of trees. Firewood may be provided for you in the campground, and campers can freely collect dead and downed wood in the campground. Please call our visitor center at 703-221-7181 for more information.

Visitors recreating in one of the park's picnic areas

Did You Know?
Prior to 1948, Prince William Forest Park was named Chopawamsic Recreation Demonstration Area. The name hinted at one of the park's intended uses as a source of recreational opportunities for the inner-city youth of Washington, D.C.
