The National Weather Service in the San Francisco Bay Area has issued a beach hazard statement for strong rip currents in effect through this evening.

Stronger than usual rip currents along coastal sections of Marin County, in particular southwest facing beaches including, but not limited to, Limantour Beach, Sculptured Beach, Kelham Beach, Wildcat Beach, and Palomarin Beach.

Conditions are present to support a heightened risk of strong rip currents. Rip currents are typically more frequent and stronger in the vicinity of jetties, inlets, and piers. Swimmers caught in a rip current should swim parallel to the coast to escape the rip current before trying to swim to shore. Beach goers should never turn their backs to the ocean.
