Second Consecutive Extreme Fire Alert Issued for Point Reyes National Seashore on October 4, 2013

Point Reyes National Seashore Superintendent Cicely Muldoon, stated that again today is an extreme fire danger alert within the Seashore due to the potential high fire danger. The warning is in effect due to low humidity and offshore winds. An additional warning could be issued tomorrow dependent on fire conditions.
Even though the Point Reyes National Seashore is closed due to the government shutdown, this release is being issued as a public safety message.
Most activities that become prohibited during periods of extreme fire hazard are already prohibited due to the park closure. Those include: 1) no wood or charcoal fires will be allowed on beaches or in picnic areas; 2) all previously issued fire permits become null and void; 3) smoking will be prohibited on park trails; and 4) Mount Vision Road will be closed to all vehicle traffic. Red Flag Fire Alerts are issued on a daily basis, since fire weather can change from day to day.
