Recovery Act Projects
Recovery Act logo
Funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 has been provided to thin fire-prone stands of vegetation at various locations in Point Reyes National Seashore and Golden Gate National Recreation Area. This series of projects is designed to enhance wildfire protection for neighboring communities and park structures.

The first set of treatments will take place between November 9 and December 18, 2009. This includes the following projects at Point Reyes National Seashore:

* Highway 1
* Bear Valley

Smaller non-native eucalyptus trees, 18 inches in diameter and less, and dead woody material resulting from Sudden Oak Death will be removed to reduce hazardous fuel.

See an example of a past project before and after treatment.

See also Recovery Act fuel reduction projects at Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

This web page will be updated as the projects progress.  For more information, contact the Fire Education Office at 415-464-5133.
