Giacomini Wetland Restoration Project: Restoration:
How Can We Learn About the Restoration?

We were completely overwhelmed last year by the success of our field seminars. In fact, more than 150 people showed up for the discussion of bird use of the Giacomini Ranch and the restored Giacomini Wetlands presented by local wildlife biologist Jules Evens.

Inspired by the enthusiastic response to these outreach efforts, we are sponsoring more field seminars and evening events this year. These seminars and talks will help people to better understand the restoration process and the progress of restoration as we continue to monitor the evolution of these unique wetlands. In addition, we plan to highlight other topics of special interest in wetland restoration.

  • First Event - Saturday, March 21, 2009: Thanks to those who came for our first event of the year. Dr. Russell provided some invaluable insight into the complexities of climate change and how it might affect Tomales Bay. For more information on climate change and how it might affect our coastal wetlands, visit our What’s the Long-Term Future of Our Wetlands? page.

Did You Know?
Elephant seals (Mirounga angustirostris) regularly plunge to depths of 2000 feet to find food, but even far below the ocean's surface they are affected by warming temperatures and melting Antarctic ice.
