POINT REYES, CALIFORNIA – One of the premier destinations along California’s coast, Point Reyes National Seashore hosts over two million visitors every year. Visitors arrive from all over the world and from our own backyard. With over 140 miles of trails, opportunities to watch wildlife, and some of the world's most spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, Point Reyes offers something for everyone. Beginning Friday, July 1, and running through the Labor Day Weekend, extended summer hours and services will be added to assist visitors' enjoyment of their National Park sites.

The Bear Valley Visitor Center, open seven days a week, will be open an additional hour on Friday and Saturday evenings, closing at 6:00 p.m. The visitor center overlooking the Point Reyes' historic 1870 Lighthouse is open Thursday through Monday from 10:00 a.m until 4:30 p.m. And the Kenneth C. Patrick Visitor Center at Drakes Beach will be open additional days, serving the public from Friday through Monday from 10:00 a.m until 5:00 p.m.

Additional services will be added as well. Ranger-led programs are scheduled twice a day, seven days a week. Ranger programs include the prospect of a walk along the San Andreas Fault, a visit to a recreated Coast Miwok village site, a chance to see the significant role Point Reyes has played in California agriculture, or a look at the only Science on a Sphere™ exhibit in the National Park Service. Opportunities to see the historic lighthouse lens are available Friday through Monday between 2:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., though high winds can close the stairs to the lighthouse. On weekends, docents explain the breeding behavior of one of the state's largest herds of Tule Elk. Special events include Big Time, on Saturday, July 16, a day long festival of Native Californian traditional skills, including basket making, flint knapping, and bead making.
