Volunteer: Giacomini Restoration Volunteer

Overview
The Giacomini Restoration volunteer assists park staff in restoring tidal and freshwater wetland habitat on the former Giacomini ranchlands through revegetation efforts.

Duties

  • Plant perennial herbs and shrubs
  • Clip cattails at water surface
  • Dig holes
  • Place plant plugs in holes
  • Use shovels, buckets and picks

Volunteers must be able to perform moderate physical labor with hand tools, such as bending and stooping, while in waders.

Schedule and Time Commitment
Restoration workdays are scheduled for up to 6 hours per day, however, volunteers may work a variable number of hours during this time period. Please contact us (see below) to confirm work times.

The Giacomini Restoration program is a drop-in program where volunteers are not required to work more than one day at a time. However, volunteers are welcome to work as many of the work days as desired.

Currently scheduled workdays are scheduled from Wednesday, September 25 through Saturday, November 30, 2013:

Training will be provided on location.

Benefits to the Volunteer
Volunteers will enjoy the satisfaction of helping to restore wetland habitat as well as gain awareness and appreciation for wetlands in Point Reyes National Seashore.

Group Type
Individuals and groups are encouraged to participate.

Minimum Age
Minimum age is 8 years. Volunteers under 18 must have a signed parental consent form. Please contact us (see below) for more information.

Accommodations
Housing and camping/RV sites are unavailable.
