Public transportation options in many portions of the Trail corridor are extensive, including:

  • AMTRAK Capital Limited and Cardinal routes, making connections to Fredericksburg, VA; Alexandria, VA; Washington, D.C.; Cumberland, MD; and Pittsburgh, PA
  • MARC and VRE regional commuter train service (with a MARC connection to BWI International Airport)
  • long-distance commercial bus services, leaving near Union Stationlocal bus services

Moncacy Aqueduct along C&O Canal

Aqueducts are water filled bridges. Of the 11 aqueducts built along the canal, the Monocacy Aqueduct is the longest at 516 feet, its seven arches constructed mainly of stone quarried from nearby Sugarloaf Mountain.
