Centennial Initiative 2016

"The coming of the 2016 centennial of the National Park System is an opportunity to restore the luster of our national parks and inspire future generations to protect these national treasures."

- U.S. Senator Ken Salazar, Statement on the National Park Centennial Fund Act, April 2008. The Honorable Ken Salazar was confirmed as the 50th Secretary of the Interior on January 20, 2009.

The oldest fruit tree in the National Park Service can be found at Oxon Hill Farm. For centuries the making of cider from apples has been more than just pressing fruit to provide a delicious drink. Cider making was a social event for family and neighbors.
