MOTCO Army Base Closed to NPS Memorial Tours
Restricted access MOTCO Army base is closed to all visitors planning to see the Port Chicago Naval Magazine NM. Closure dates include: April, May, June and up to the July 20th NPS comemmoration event of the explosion.
69th Annual Commemoration
Please join us on Saturday July 20, 2013 for the 69th annual commemoration of the Port Chicago explosion. On the night of July 17, 1944, a massive explosion killed 320 men instantly as they were loading munitions bound for the Pacific Theater. Come celebrate the legacy these men at the10:00 a.m. ceremony. Afterward, Park Rangers will be giving short programs. There will be a showing a Port Chicago film and opportunities to socialize. Because the event will be held on an active military base, all visitors must have reservations and a security check. When reserving your spot, please be ready to provide: · First and Last Name |
