Industrial Leadership For The Preservation of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants

Sustainable Sourcing: Environmental, Social and Business Benefits
October 14-15, 2003

2003 SYMPOSIUM E-PROCEEDINGS
(with linked bios & presentations, if available)

From the Chair of the Medicinal Plant Working Group:
With 105 participants, the 2003 Symposium revealed the richness of the issues facing the medicinal plant community. We examined the medicinal and aromatic plants supply chain by focusing on the people and entities who influence the supply chain -- from wildcrafters to growers, from indigenous people to non-indigenous people, from industry to government. Panel discussions addressed the elements of and challenges to the sustainable supply of medicinal plants. The panelists themselves crossed traditional boundaries -- with indigenous members of the federal government and wildcrafters who have moved into cultivation -- all of whom provided unique and interesting perspectives. The Medicinal Plant Working Group wishes to thank all of the participants -- speakers, attendees, facilitators, and planners. Again, a special thanks to our sponsors.

Sincerely,
Patricia De Angelis
Chair, MPWG
