Whipple’s Cholla is a large branching shrub like cactus that is typically 2 to 4 feet in height. The flowers are yellow and bloom in the spring to early summer. Be very careful around this plant. The spines are very sharp.

James Whitmore brought 400 longhorns with him from Texas to Utah in the 1850s. On April 13, 1863, Whitmore received a land certificate for a 160-acre tract, which included Pipe Spring.
