Pipestone National Monument Guest Speaker Series Pipestone, MN: Glen Livermont, Superintendent at Pipestone National Monument announces the second speaker in this year's Guest Speaker Series will be David Larsen. He will be talking about Awareness and Understanding of American Indian Culture and History. Mr.Larsen is scheduled to speak at the Pipestone Performing Arts Center, Pipestone, Minnesota on Wednesday November 28th from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. David Larsen Jr. was born in Pipestone, MN and raised at Ca Sa Yapi (Lower Sioux Reservation) in Morton, Minnesota. His father, David Larsen Sr. and mother, Emarica Wabasha, are both Mdewankanton Dakota. Emarica Wabasha's family was exiled to Nebraska after the Dakota Conflict. David spent 20 years as an educator and he has also served as the Special Advisory to the President for American Indian Affairs at Mankato State University as well as Director of American Indian Affairs in the Office of Diversity. Currently, David serves as Spiritual Advisor to the Minnesota Correctional Facility at Shakopee and conducts Sweat Lodge ceremoniesfor incarcerated American Indian women and soon will begin conducting Sweat Lodge ceremonies for the St. Cloud Veteran's Hospital with Indian patients inmental health and drug and alcohol counseling.
