The public is invited to celebrate the release of a new quarter honoring Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial on Saturday, April 20 at 11:30 a.m. The ceremony will be held on the lower plaza of the Memorial and will feature drumming by the Black Swamp Intertribal Foundation, the United States Naval Sea Cadet Color Guard (Firelands Division), the Put-in-Bay Brownie Troop, and vocalists Deb Parker and Robert Bell.

Invited guest speakers include the Governor of Ohio and Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur. Master of Ceremonies for the event will be Greg Peiffer, President and General Manager of WPIB/WPCR radio.

After the ceremony, guests will be treated to refreshments provided by the Put-in-Bay Chamber of Commerce and the Perry Group. "Thanks to First National Bank, who has agreed to be the sponsoring bank, visitors will also be able to exchange dollars for the newly minted quarters after the ceremony," said Blanca Alvarez Stransky, Superintendent of Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial.

The Perry's Victory quarter designed by Don Everhart, shows on the "tails" side, the statue of Commander Oliver Hazard Perry with the Peace Memorial located in the distance. Inscriptions include "Perry's Victory, Ohio, 2013 and e pluribus unum," added Stransky.

A free quarter will be given to every school age child during the launch. The public may also exchange bills for rolls of the newly minted coin after the ceremony. There will be a 1 roll minimum ($10) and a maximum of 10 rolls ($100) per person.

According to the United States Mint, the Perry's Victory quarter is part of the America the Beautiful Quarters series which started in 2010. The Memorial was selected by Secretary of the Treasurer Timothy Giethner after consulting with the Governor of Ohio and the Secretary of the Interior.

"We are honored to have been selected as the national park site to represent the State of Ohio in this very impressive coin series. Once in circulation, millions of Americans all across the country will one day hold a Perry's Victory quarter in their hand and hopefully, the quarter will inspire them to learn more Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry and the War of 1812," added Stransky.

2013 marks the fourth year of the American the Beautiful Quarters series. This year's designs on the coins honor: White Mountain National Forest(New Hampshire), Great Basin National Park(Nevada), Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine (Maryland), and Mount Rushmore National Memorial (South Dakota).

Guests wishing to attend the ceremony should plan on catching the Miller Ferry from Catawba Island since the Jet Express is not operating in April, said Stransky.

Due to the recent government sequestration, Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial will only open for the ceremony on April 20. The park has delayed its season opening to Saturday, May 25. The hours of operation will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information about the coin ceremony or about park programs please call Perry's Victory (419) 285-2184
