In collaboration with the Island Tradition of celebrating the Canadian holiday of Queen Victoria Day Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial will hold their "Planting the Seeds of Peace," event on Saturday May 19th. This is an annual event held at Perry's Victory that marks the opening of the summer season as we join the island community in the long held tradition of observing Queen Victoria Day through planting, beautifying, and preparing for the upcoming tourist season and events. We reserve this special day for planting our Peace Garden which welcomes visitors and stands as a commemoration of the long-lasting peace between Canada, Great Britain, and the United States.

We welcome visitors, neighbors and friends to share this special day with us by joining us in our planting activities as well as partaking in some fun educational activities and an ice cream social!Perry's Victory began holding their peace garden planting on Queen Victoria Weekend as a way to bring their mission of commemorating peace to life.Superintendent Blanca Alvarez Stransky explains "Gardens are synonymous with peace and transcend all language barriers. The planting of a peace garden at the Memorial is the perfect method for expressing the park's dual mission-commemorating the War of 1812 and honoring the long-lasting peace between countries".

Area gardeners young and old are invited to help plant the park's peace gardens on the corner of Toledo and Bay View Avenues and the corner of Hartford and Bay View Avenues. Planting starts at 10 a.m., gloves and trowels will be provided.Children's activities also begin at 10 a.m. and run throughout the day until 3 p.m.Children's activities will include seed cartridge rolling, and compostable flower pot decoration. Ice cream will be served to celebrate the planting and the beginning of a new season of events and programs at the memorial. Ice cream will be served at 12 noon.
