During the Civil War, the "mounted soldiers" achieved more in the way of scouting and raiding expeditions than it achieved in battle. However, by 1864, a more effective use was starting to be found for cavalry. Horse soldiers began to make an impact on the operations of the infantry by combining mounted action with fighting on foot.
