Partial Closing of Horse Trail due to Heavy Rains

Pea Ridge National Military Park Superintendent, John Scott, announced today that the North portion of the park’s horse trail will be closed until further notice. Scott said the heavy rains of late have made this section too wet for use and susceptible to resource damage. A short loop, consisting of 4.5 miles will remain open. The popular trails offer horseback riders a unique and safe way to see the park and get some exercise. Work to improve the trails, addressing flooding issues, is planned for this summer Scott said. Park staff asks that riders report any downed trees or excessively muddy areas to staff at the Visitor Center.

The Elkhorn Tavern and area north of the tavern remain off limits to horses due to resource damage.

Morgan's Woods

Did You Know?
Morgan’s Woods is the location of Confederate retreat after a collision of armies. Afterwards, a surgeon from the Leetown hospital remarked that for 200 yards in front of White’s position in Morgan’s Woods, not a tree, bush, or sapling was unmarked by the firing of cannon, canister, or shell.
