Sunrise Run-Walk to be Held at Petrified Forest National Park

Petrified Forest, AZ – “Petrified Forest National Park is hosting a 5K/10K Sunrise Run/Walk on August 16, 2008 at 5:30 a.m.,” stated Superintendent Cliff Spencer. Petrified Forest Museum Association will again be sponsoring the event.

This event will offer participants a rare opportunity to enjoy the park at sunrise, before the regular opening hours of the park.  The run will follow the section of park road that passes by the Painted Desert. The beautiful colors of the Painted Desert come alive in the early morning hours and temperatures are cooler at that time.

Participants may register in advance by downloading and printing out the registration form found at www.nps.gov/pefo/planyourvisit/sunrise-fun-run.htm and mailing the form to

Only registered participants of the Sunrise Run/Walk will be permitted into the park before regular business hours. Late registration and sign-in will begin at 4:30 a.m. at the entrance gate to the park at I-40 exit 311. The run/walk will start at 5:30 a.m.
