Petrified Forest Sponsors Science Day Camps in June and July 2008
Petrified Forest – Students interested in learning more about the archeology and paleontology of Petrified Forest National Park are invited to attend one or both Science Day Camps to be held in the park this summer. An Archeology Day Camp will be held June 24-25 and a Paleontology Day Camp will be held July 22-23. Students will learn about the natural and cultural history preserved in the park, explore the backcountry and wilderness areas, and assist in the collection of scientific data that will help the park to document fragile resources. The camps are free and open to Holbrook, Joseph City, and Sanders residents.
Students 13-15 years old are eligible, with a limit of 15 students per camp chosen on a first come, first served basis. Transportation will be provided from Holbrook High School each day, departing at 7:30am and returning at 4:00pm. Days will be spent outdoors. Closed-toed shoes, long pants, a backpack, water bottles, and sun protection are required. Students must be able to hike several miles over rough terrain.
