Decrease in Visitation for June 2007 at Petrified Forest National Park

Petrified Forest, AZ – Acting Park Superintendent Brad Traver announced that visitation for June had a decrease of 8% from last year with 80,657 visits compared to last year’s 87,953. The year to date total is 267,431 which is down by 5%.

Petrified wood was so abundant when the ancestral Puebloan people were living in the area that they used it not only for stone tools but also as building material, such as the "brick" used in Agate House at Petrified Forest National Park.
