Artist Statement
My paintings represent personal experiences in both the process of using paint to create a visual concept and representations of those experiences that involve relationships with natural forces. I find my creativity and inspiration through the story a landscape provides in how I relate to and experience a place and situation. Experience is not only physical but spiritual as well, which extends the landscape into another realm, that of thought and feeling, beyond only physical sight. The land and the human soul are intertwined and it is my intention to retell this phenomenon and evoke a personal response through my art. As rocks and sky are components of a landscape, so also are colors and lines components to convey a story of an experience in nature. I hope to provide a story through my art of my landscape experiences as artist in resident at Petrified Forest National Park.
