Celebrate National Preservation Month at Petrified Forest in May 2006

Petrified Forest, AZ – Petrified Forest National Park will join thousands of individuals around the country as part of a nationwide celebration of National Historic Preservation Month, May 2006. “Sustain America --Vision, Economics, and Preservation" is the theme of the month-long celebration, which is sponsored annually by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

As part of the month-long celebration, citizens nationwide will celebrate with alumni reunions, career days, pageants, workshops, clean-up days, rallies, re-enactments, and home and garden tours. Here in Petrified Forest National Park Preservation Month 2006 will be observed by special programs and activities about our many sites on the National Register of Historic Places as well as a drawing for a book donated by Petrified Forest Museum Association.

The sites at Petrified Forest National Park include Agate House Pueblo, Painted Desert Petroglyphs and Ruins Archeological District, Painted Desert Inn and Cabins (also a National Historic Landmark), Flattops Site, Newspaper Rock Petroglyphs and Archaeological District, Puerco Ruins and Petroglyphs, Twin Buttes Archeological District, Thirty-fifth Parallel Route (also known as the Beale Camel Trail), and the most recent, Painted Desert Community Complex Historic District.

More information on program details will be available at the Painted Desert Visitor Center and Rainbow Forest Museum.
