- Tourism Director
- Position has gone competitive from contract to term position. Trying to rush through HR.
- Building Better Partnerships Projects Update
- Putting analysis of projects on web page and ensuring what is posted are exemplary examples of a partnership project.
- Partnership Leadership Awards - Chris Niewold
- Marty will review draft and make recommendations to Partnership Council.
- Alaska
- Has presented a regional Partnership Award for the past several years. The award itself is an etched glass
standing "plaque." The regional director presents the award at a gathering in Anchorage, typically while
superintendents are at a meeting, with all regional office employees invited. It's been a lunch event. Works
very well and the recipients are absolutely thrilled to receive the recognition.
- Intermountain Region
- Unknown at this time, will inquire.
- Midwest Region
- Not presenting any awards.
- NCR
- Was unrepresented at time of call.
- Northeast Region
- Unknown at this time will inquire.
- Pacific Region

National Park System Advisory Board's Partnership Committee Initiative Update - Brenda Barrett
- Had one meeting in September (BlackStone National Heritage Corridor)
- Will be meeting in:
- December (Cane River)
- This winter in Washington D.C.
- April (Detroit Auto Heritage Area)
- Report will be out in spring.
Case study on how outcomes were conceived and sustained. Will be looking at factors that make some areas successful
and some not. Have been collecting indicators and harder to define sustainable successes.
- Midwest Regional Director was hosted by Auto Heritage Area in September.
- Heritage Alliance received Historic Preservation Award from the National Trust.
Gateway Community Training - Linda Dahl
NPS funded $10,000 and Yosemite Gateway Communities raised $48,000 (excellent fundraising effort). They were able
to customize course. 60 people are able to attend the 3-day course "Balancing Commerce and Nature in Gateway
Communities". Course will identify drivers to local economy (do economic profiles), public land management, and
improve communication with other gateway communities even though they are in competition with each other.
DO 21 Update - Karyn Ferro/John Piltzecker
New timeline
- Workgroup review: Until October 21
- Revisions based on review: 1 week (until October 29). This will be an intensive effort.
- SOL/Ethics review: 2 weeks(maybe 3) (until November 17)
- NLC review: 2 weeks (until December 1)
- Revisions: (Will we need to give ourselves? Two weeks, until December 15)
- Through NPS/DOI to Federal Register (about a month, until January 15, maybe 30 due to holidays)
- Public Comment (30 days to Feb 15 or 30)
Does these timeframes make sense? Are we giving enough time for people to review the document? Are we giving ourselves
enough time to make edits and think through changes? If not, what timeframes would you change?
