POINT REYES NATIONAL SEASHORE

Tule elk are one of the magnificent stories of a native species return. Historically, over 500,000 of these species, endemic to California, roamed the wildlands but were near extinction by 1870. In 1978, a herd of ten was reintroduced to Point Reyes and now they number over 450.
