ANTIETAM NATIONAL BATTLEFIELD

Side view of a cannon and limber with the tall New York State Monument in the background.

This 12-pound James rifled gun was an eary attempt to convert smoothbore bronze guns into rifled cannons. That is a limber to the left of the gun that is used to move the cannon. A six horse team would pull the limber and the cannon. The New York State Monument is in the background.
