MOUNT RAINIER NATURE NOTES
Vol. VIII January, 1930 No. 1

Issued monthly during the winter months, semi-monthly during the summer months by the Mt. Rainier Nat'l Park Nature Guide Service.
C. Frank Brockman,
Park Naturalist.
O. A. Tomlinson,
Superintendent.

Welcome to 1930!

A sinking sun paints all with eerie light --
And with it sinks the year's neglected hopes --
Our valley, hemmed by densely wooded slopes,
Is steeped in sombre shadows of the night.

--- --- ---

But there, aloft, "The Mountain" rises skyward
        Surmounts the forest's sable-vested spires,
And there the year's fast ebbing light's a bouyant byword
A New Year's promise in its sunset fires.
