MR. FLOYD SCHMOE, PARK NATURALIST, RESIGNS

The close of the 1928 summer season witnesses the departure from government service of Mr. Floyd Schmoe, our Park Naturalist, who for the past six years has supervised and developed the Nature Guide Department in Mount Rainier National Park. Under his guidance this department has advanced steadily until today the educational service that he and his associates render our visitors is the cause of much favorable comment by all who have enjoyed the nature hikes, the lectures or this publication. Thus, it is largely through Mr. Schmoe's efforts that the thousands of visitors who annually visit the Mountain, return to their homes with a broader conception of the natural history of this region and a better understanding of the interesting things along our roads and trails.

Mr. Schmoe is a nationally known figure in his chosen work. His lectures about the country have done a great deal toward the dessimination of information regarding, not only our own Park but all our National Playgrounds as well. He leaves us so that he may devote his entire time to this field of study upon a much broader scale and the entire personnel of Mount Rainier National Park, including myself, wish him the best of success.

With this issue I close my work as Park Naturalist of Mount Rainier National Park. Although I have met only a few of the readers of this little sheet in person, I have shared with you that fraternity enjoyed by all lovers of nature.

A newspaper reporter once wrote me up as the only man of his acquaintance who enjoyed a twelve months vacation each year. It has been a pleasure to be associated in such work and I leave it with regrets, but I do not intend to go far from the Mountain.
