Park Closes Due to Tropical Storm Don

Escoto announced that Padre Island National Seashore is evacuating gulf beaches
and will close the park as well as access roads to park beaches as of Friday, July
29, 2011 by midafternoon. The park is expected to reopen Saturday, July 30,
2011 when conditions are considered to be safe by park personnel. No overnight camping will be permitted. The closure
is due to the anticipated adverse storm and tidal conditions which will be caused
by Tropical storm Don presently southeast of Corpus Christi, Texas. The Malaquite Beach
Campground, Visitor Center, and Bird Island Basin will also close today, Friday,
