Sea turtle conservation and research efforts conducted at Padre Island National Seashore have received extensive media coverage since they began in the late 1970s. Coverage has extended from local to international levels and included the New York Times, Washington Post, Discovery News, Dateline, Southern Living Magazine, Bark Magazine, Newsweek, National Geographic, Texas Country Reporter, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department television series and magazine, Texas Highways Magazine, Texas Coop Magazine, Corpus Christi Caller Times, Houston Chronicle, National Parks Magazine, San Antonio Express News, Brownsville Herald, Voice of America News, and numerous others. Dr. Donna Shaver, Chief of the Division of Sea Turtle Science and Recovery, was featured as ABC World News Tonight's Person of the Week on July 29, 2005.
