Picture yourself standing at the Great Falls overlook today. What do you see, feel and experience? Now imagine what this place will look like 20 years from now. What changes in your view?

These questions about the future of Paterson Great Falls National Historical Park are being explored right now and we invite you to be part of creating that vision as we start the General Management Plan.

A General Management Plan (GMP) lays out a vision and guides decision making to get there over the next 20 years. All units of the national park system are required to have a GMP that address resource protection, visitor use, facilities and boundary.

A little over a year ago, the planning team updated you on the status of the general management plan in our Fall 2012 Newsletter. Since then, the NPS planning team completed many important activities to advance development of the park's first general management plan, including working closely with the Paterson Great Falls National Historical Park Federal Advisory Commission, the city of Paterson, and others to develop various alternatives for future management of the park.

The planning team is now in the process of writing the draft general management plan with the intent of releasing the draft document later this summer for your review and comments. Shortly thereafter, we will hold a set of public open houses to answer question and receive additional comments. The draft document will be posted to this planning website where you will be able to download copies of the plan, submit comments, and find times and locations for the open houses. In the meantime, we have developed a Winter, 2014 Newsletter to fill you in on what we have been doing over the past year. In this newsletter, you will find an update on park programming and activities, a brief description of studies the planning team has completed, and information on how you can stay involved with the park and the general management plan.

Your input is instrumental in the planning process. We value your interest in Paterson Great Falls National Historical Park, and we look forward to completing this plan with your support and collaboration.
