In time for the long Memorial Day weekend, Ozark National Scenic Riverways has reopened the Big Spring Campground for camping. The roadways in the Big Spring campground, lodge and cabin areas were repaved and a new culvert and road surface installed. "The repaving and culvert work is complete and visitors are able to camp at the Big Spring Campground once again," said Superintendent Bill Black.
The spring flooding in 2011 heavily damaged the culvert, road surfaces, and washed away road sections in the Big Spring area. The restoration roadwork was accomplished this spring when the weather was warm enough for the paving. In order for the work to be safely conducted, the Big Spring Campground was closed for visitor safety. All the work was completed yesterday at 5:00 pm. "We hope the visiting public is pleased with the results." states Black.
Ozark National Scenic Riverways preserves the free-flowing Current and Jacks Fork Rivers, the surrounding resources, and the unique cultural heritage of the Ozark people.
