Van Buren, MO- In recognition of the American Civil War Sesquicentennial, The Civil War in Missouri, Kansas, and Arkansas exhibit is now on display at the Visitor Contact Station in Van Buren, Missouri through 2013.  

"The exhibit explores the causes of the Civil War, the Midwest geography of its rivers and the Ozark Highlands effect on the war's strategies, and the personal impacts on the Ozark civilians caught in the middle of two warring armies," states Superintendent Bill Black. "The exhibit is especially a valuable tool for teachers and school youth studying the Civil War in the surrounding area".

Ozark National Scenic Riverways preserves the free-flowing Current and Jacks Fork Rivers, the surrounding natural resources, and the unique cultural heritage of the Ozark people.
