Housing - Seasonal
Chalet (Visitor Center) has housing for seasonal staff and volunteers.

NPS

Chalet (Visitor Center) has housing for seasonal staff and volunteers.

Chalet

Oregon Caves Chalet is located above the Visitor's Center on the second and third floors. The Chalet is a historic building located in the historic plaza and adjacent to the entrance to the cave. Most of the rooms are occupied by seasonal employees and volunteers working at Oregon Caves. The living conditions are dorm-like, with one to two people living in each room. Volunteers or interns who agree to live at this site must have a flexible and open-minded social attitude as well as an ability to live in close quarters with other staff. Rent for the room would be taken off your pay and volunteers do not have to pay rent if they work at least 32 hours per week.

RV Parks

RV parks with hookups are located in Cave Junction, about 20 miles from Oregon Caves. These would be best suited for people who have children or pets. Driving long distances on winding roads to reach the monument would be required. There are a few hookups located a mile away from Oregon Caves off of Route 46, but availability is limited.

The monument will pay the weekly campground fee for any volunteers (who work at least 32 hours per week) who prefer to camp in one of the local campgrounds. We will also pay for propane for volunteers as well.

Grayback Campground

This US Forest Service (USFS) camp is a deeply wooded site located about 8 miles from Oregon Caves and twelve miles from the community of Cave Junction. There are no hookups at this site. If you plan on working at the monument longer than a week, this option is not right for you. There are also many more options on where stay during your volunteer positions (if no longer than a week).

Renting Options in Illinois Valley

For those who have family obligations or who may want to rent a cabin, home, or apartment near the monument, the local paper, Illinois Valley News may have ads of available places for rent and may be contact at PO Box 1370, Cave Junction, OR 97523, or call (541) 592-2541.

From the vista on the Cliff Nature trail you can see the nation's largest serpentine rock outcrops in the distance.

Did You Know?
The mountains surrounding Oregon Caves are composed of ocean crust including rocks uplifted directly from the mantle. These mantle rocks make up one of the largest serpentine rock outcrops in the nation.
