The popular Hall of Mosses Trail in Olympic National Park's Hoh Rainforest will be temporarily closed effective September 29 while trail maintenance crews install a replacement for the bridge which crosses Taft Creek. The closure is expected to last until October 6. The bridge replacement is part of a two-phase project to further improve visitor accessibility on popular trails in the Hoh. Trail maintenance crews installed two bridges on the Mini Rainforest Loop earlier this month. The second phase of the accessibility project will take place next year, as the park plans to repave sections of the Hoh Rainforest's heavily-visited nature trails. The bridge will be in place and the trail reopened in time for the beginning of the coho salmon spawning season. "We ask for your understanding during this temporary closure," said Deputy Superintendent Todd Suess. "The bridge work coincides with the end of the park's peak visitation season, and is a necessary project to enhance visitor access and safety while still preserving park resources." |

Does this flower look familiar? The bunchberry, a common groundcover of Olympic's lowland forest, is closely related to the dogwood trees found throughout North America.
