The wool trade and sheep were a major economic industry in New Mexico. Woven woolen goods were shipped west on the Old Spanish Trail, and east on the Santa Fe Trail. Thousands of sheep were traded from Santa Fe south on El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro to Chihuahua and Durango from 1821-1846.
