The Japanese fleet that set out for the Hawaiian Islands consisted of 33 warships and auxiliary craft, including six aircraft carriers.

1. When did the Japanese set out on their attack?

2. When did the Japanese return to Japan?

3. Why do you think so much time elapsed in between? (Additional information is found in Reading 1.)

* The map on the screen has a resolution of 72 dots per inch (dpi), and therefore will print poorly. You can obtain a high quality version of this map, but be aware that the file will take as much as a minute to load with a 28.8K modem.
