The Scotts Bluff Discover Our Shared Heritage travel itinerary was produced by the National Park Service's Heritage Education Services, Midwest Regional Office History and National Register Program, and Scotts Bluff National Monument in partnership with the City of Scottsbluff, the City of Gering, the Nebraska State Historic Preservation Office, and the National Conference of State Historic Preservation Officers. The Scotts Bluff travel itinerary is based primarily on registration information on historic places in the National Park Service National Register of Historic Places and National Historic Landmarks collections. These archives are kept at 1201 Eye St., NW, Washington, D.C. and are open to the public. Some of the collection is online.

The itinerary was conceptualized by Don Stevens, Chief of the National Park Service Midwest Regional Office History and National Register Program and Ken Mabery, Superintendent of Scotts Bluff National Monument, and written by National Council for Preservation Education interns Mark Fluehr and Cody Hackett. Jessica Berglin, Rebecca Kumar, Stephen Rogers, Dena Sanford, and Mark Chavez of the National Park Service Midwest Regional Office History and National Register Program provided support and editing. Vergil E. Noble of the National Park Service Midwest Archeological Center assisted in preparing one of the essays and compiling the bibliography. Barbara Netherland, Curator & Public Relations of the North Platte Valley Museum; Nancy Haney, Curator & Public Relations of the Farm and Ranch Museum; Jack Preston, Co-Director of the Farm and Ranch Museum; Kevin Howard, Tourism Director of Scottsbluff County Tourism; Lois Metcalf; Jim Headley, Editor, Gering Citizen Newspaper; Rick Myers, Reporter (retired), Star-Herald; and Willa Kosman, Executive Director, Midwest Theater, provided advice and support. Jim Holland, editor of the Scottsbluff Star-Herald provided additional assistance. Mark Fluehr, Cody Hackett, and Stephen Rogers took most of the contemporary photographs or obtained them from Rick Myers, photographer for the Scottsbluff Star-Herald, and Kevin Howard. Historic photographs were obtained from the archives at the North Platte Valley Museum and from the Nebraska State Historical Society. William Henry Jackson paintings were obtained from the online archives of the William Henry Jackson collection at Scotts Bluff National Monument.

Copies of National Register nominations were provided by Jessie Nunn, National Register coordinator for the Nebraska State Historical Society. Other research materials were largely obtained from the North Platte Valley Museum, the Farm and Ranch Museum, the Scotts Bluff National Monument library, and the library at the Midwest Regional Office of the National Park Service.

Carol Shull, Chief, Heritage Education Services, National Park Service, edited and managed production of the itinerary. Hyejung Kwon designed the original computer template for the itineraries as the practicum for her Masters of Tourism Administration (MTA) at George Washington University’s School of Business, Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management. Kathryn Warnes, contractor with the National Conference of State Historic Preservation Officers, has adjusted the template. Amber Dumler, National Park Service Park Museum Management Program, programmed most of the itinerary into the template. Heritage Education Services student interns Nissa Vandre of the John Glenn School of Public Affairs Washington Academic Internship Program and Tamara Wolfe of the Department of History at American University provided assistance with editing and programming the itinerary. Matthew Klein and Paula Traylor, students in the Historic Preservation Career Studies Certificate Program, Northern Virginia Community College; Jennifer Jablonsky, graduate student in the Department of History at American University; and Kristin Rroberts, graduate student in the History Department of George Mason University, also provided assistance by checking over the itinerary and making editorial corrections.

The itinerary was produced with the support of the National Park Service's Jon Smith, Assistant Director for Heritage Preservation Services; Ronald C. Wilson, Chief Curator and Manager, Park Museum Management Program; Bryan Mitchell, Chief, Heritage Preservation Services; Paul Loether, Chief, National Register of Historic Places and National Historic Landmarks; and Richard O’Connor, Chief, Historical Documentation Programs. Jeff Joeckel of the National Register of Historic Places and National Historic Landmarks staff provided very valuable advice and assistance in the development of the itinerary, as did John Byrne, the National Register Database Manager.
