A Kite's-Eye View
Go fly a kite!

NPS Photo by a kite

Get a kite's eye view at Gateway National Recreation Area. This aerial photo shows part of the wall and dry moat around Fort Tompkins at Fort Wadsworth.

Go fly a kite with Park Rangers and take pictures from the air!

See a national park through the "eyes" of a kite! Our kite has a small camera attached to take aerial photographs (such as the one to the left). Park rangers help your see your photos immediately by loading them onto a laptop computer. Compare your photos with historic aerial photographs taken in the 1920s. After the visit, the National Park Service will send you your photographs by mail or email.

This program is weather-dependent. Kites can only be flown on sunny days with sufficient wind.

For more information about this program, call (718) 354-4530 or email us.
