The National Park Service issued a prospectus for the new concession contract on Friday, March 21, 2008. The prospectus is a solicitation for proposals to operate overnight accommodations, food and beverage, retail and transportation services within the Stehekin District of Lake Chelan National Recreation Area.

The concession contract between the National Park Service and current concessioner expires on October 31, 2008. A new 10-year term contract will be awarded this summer and will take effect on November 1, 2008.

Offers must be received by June 4th, 2008, no later than 4:00 pm (Pacific Time). Parties interested in being on the mailing list for this prospectus or who are interested in purchasing a prospectus package may contact Kim Gagliolo, Concession Management Analyst, Pacific West Region at 510-817-1368. Additionally, the prospectus will also be available for review and may be downloaded, beginning March 21, 2008, at https://concessions.nps.gov/news.cfm.

Stehekin is located at the end of Lake Chelan and is accessible by boat, floatplane, or by foot trail and is home to roughly 100 year-round residents. Stehekin serves as a gateway for visitors traveling into North Cascades National Park, and recreational opportunities abound. Because of the location of the concession facilities, most visitors and residents arriving and departing Stehekin have the opportunity to take advantage of the many services provided by this business. A site visit has been scheduled to occur on Wednesday, April 23, 2008. To receive more information regarding the site visit and to reserve a spot please contact Annelise Lesmeister at 509-682-2549 or Margie Allen at 360-854-7210.

The 1998 Concession Reform Act requires the NPS to award concession contracts through a competitive process to ensure provision of quality visitor services. The National Park Service encourages people, organizations and businesses to consider bidding on the contract and welcomes open competition for this business opportunity.

The Regional Director will award the contract. Bids will be evaluated on established criteria which include, but are not limited to, proposed objectives including the required minimum services which are identified in the prospectus, the quality and opportunity of service expressed by the bidder to complement and speak to the mission of the National Park Service, and the bidder’s financial package. The minimum standards for operation as outlined in the prospectus are based on a financial analysis that provides for basic services while allowing the concessioner to realize a reasonable opportunity for profit.

Bids should be submitted to:
